LISD Removes Rigor From Elementary Schools

Are students in Leander ISD elementary campuses even being objectively graded anymore?

Consider the following radical steps taken by district staff on the LISD Board’s watch:

  • Weekly spelling tests and timed math exams were outright eliminated.

  • Advanced (or PACE) math for Kindergarten through third grade was completely done away with.

  • Students may no longer bring tests home to review with parents, though numerous re-takes are now allowed in the classroom.

  • In mathematics, "strategies" is now the goal, not proficiency or fluency.

Surely we can do better here. People across the political spectrum agree that clear-set goals are the only way to assure that students are learning the skills necessary to succeed in future grades and in their careers.

The best way we can grade the school board is to vote OUT all of the incumbents appearing on the ballot Nov. 8! Learn more here.
